Georgia has ridden all of her life and started to compete at BSJA show jumping at 10 years old. She had successes with all of her ponies and mastered the art of staying in the saddle with her notoriously difficult pony Casper. Her first horse was a 16.1 hh grey gelding who gave Georgia invaluable experience taking her to Foxhunter level at 13 years old.
Leaving school with 10 GCSE's, Georgia was still determined to develop her
riding to a more professional standard and furthered her experience by
temporarily relocating to Nottingham where she lived in and trained with
Olympic show jumper Malcom Pyrah. Following this expedition, Georgia pursued
her passion for the sport by travelling to and training at Mark Bunting’s
stables in Atherstone where Mark helped to produce her very young string of
up and coming horses. In 2008 Georgia left Marks to train with Guy Goosen in
Germany, for a taste of the German style that Mark insisted she learned!
These stables had given her invaluable experience in the running and
dedication a professional yard required, something that has been the basic
essentials for the start of her show jumping career.
In 2004 Georgia came into possession of Springfield, a rangy 2 year old 'Kannan'
gelding who showed potential as a jumper. She set about breaking in and
training Springfield, whos stable name is 'Rooster' (after Georgia’s love of
chickens!). The horse started to show exceptional quality and scope over a
fence which confirmed that he would be a good competition prospect. Georgia
and Springfield have had countless successes and he has stayed at the top of
his level throughout his career so far. As well as this 2 year old, there
was also ‘Markie’, at the same age, as well as other youngsters since coming
through. It’s been a lengthy process to build up a string of successful
horses..... a process that is still ongoing!
Georgia prides herself on the fact that she has worked and trained hard to
produce herself as well as her horses in her sport, and has never had a
horse that has been 'ready made'. Her father Mark Wells had always
maintained the fact that if his daughter wanted top level show jumpers, then
she would have to produce them herself. She got stuck in, and is well on her
way to achieving exactly that.
Georgia still works closely with Mark Bunting and was selected for the Great Britain World Class Development squad in 2009, a talent pool fsor riders with the potential to represent their country and achieve medal success.
